You ask why you feel held in place…

Why does movement feel slow
Why does the path ahead not open
as easily as you had hoped.

And we say to you

Look not first to the world around you,

to live within you.

For you are not held
by circumstance alone.

You are not bound
by what appears before you.

You are not held by anything
you have not hosted as your anchor.

An anchor does not drop itself.

It is lowered—
sometimes consciously,

There once was a lantern that had never been lit.

It was beautifully crafted — delicate brasswork curved around a chamber of clear crystal glass, and inside it sat a small, waiting wick. The villagers often passed it on their way to the well, admiring its form but never using it. “Too beautiful,” they said. “It must be for ceremony.”

So the lantern remained — polished, honored, untouched.

Seasons passed.

Children grew. Lovers left. Elders forgot. Still, the lantern sat in silence, wondering what it meant to be made for light, yet never kindled.

Until one evening, a child came to the lantern. Not to light it, but to speak.

Her hands were small, her questions big.

“Why do people lie?”
“Why does the wind sound like crying?”
“How do you know if something is real… or just not gone yet?”
